4.1 million people are affected by hospital acquired infections every year in the EU alone. This results in at least 37 000 deaths and an annual economic impact of EUR 7 billion according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). One in eighteen hospitalized patients acquires an infection. Clemedi has recognized the pressing need in this field. A group of pathogens termed ESKAPE pathogens are particularly important. The ESKAPE bacteria are Enterococus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumonia, Acinetobacter baumanii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter spp. Clemedi is developing a reliable detection method for these bacteria in addition to a comprehensive resistance testing against relevant antibiotics. We will address the issue with three main products for urinary tract infection, surgical site infections and ventilator associated pneumonia.
